How about standoffs? Even if the sign is not fancy enough to go with a silver or gold standoff, there are various material and color options including wood. Suppliers include JDS, JPP & MBS. MBS has wooden ones.

Subject: Adhesion Problems
Hi all, seeking some advice on an issue with a sign installation.
I have 1/2" birch plywood backed with DualTite adhesive. We attempted to install the sign yesterday, and didn't realized the wall we were trying to put it on wasn't completely flat. The restaurant has kind of a textured wall, and within 5 minutes of me hanging it up, it came falling back down. I should also add that I made the mistake of not wiping down the surface before we attempted to install it. It has also been recently painted with latex paint (I would say within the last 6 months). I then thought to just use a nail gun and nail the individual pieces into the wall, but realized the back wall is concrete. Client wanted the floating look so the sign is made out of individual pieces which I would have to install individually.
Does anyone have suggestions as to what type of hardware/adhesive I should be using? I'm also considering remaking it so it's on one entire piece so that all I'd have to do is hang one piece versus installing each individual aspect of the design. Thank you in advance for your insight.
