For those who continue to ask for alternatives to CorelDRAW &/or Illustrator.
One of the popular "replacers" has been Affinity.
Canva just bought out Affinity and is offering a free download.
I tried Affinity in recent years and was very impressed but I've used CorelDRAW too long. Regardless of how annoyed I get with Corel Corporation, it's just too painful to learn all the functions/hotkeys in another program.
It is not clear if Canva plans to junk Affinity or pump some development into it.

    Roy

Along the Canva line, what is the best way to tell my customers how to send me art I can open in Corel X8? I tell them to convert to curves and save as a .pdf before sending. I can usually open the .pdf but occasionally, upon importing it into Corel, I get a "corrupt file" message. I've tried changing file names, standing on one foot, etc. but I must be missing something as a couple customers are actually successful.

    Bryant,

I doubt if I'll be of much help on the issue.  Corel has done a very good job of improving their .PDF import functions since X8.  I'm locked in with the Corel Subscription and have had no problems getting Canva files into the current CorelDRAW Subscription.
Several have said they've had luck opening Canva.PDF files with Adobe Reader and then "printing" them to .EPS files that Corel can often open w/o issue.

    Hi Bryant,

I have found that if a PDF does not import into CorelDRAW correctly, but you can open it in Acrobat or other PDF reader, do one of two things....open the file in your preferred PDF reader and Save As a PDF and trying importing it again. If that does not work, rather than click Save As, Print to a PDF using Microsoft Print to PDF print driver. This always works for me. One last tip, when importing into CorelDRAW, I find it's important to select the correct filter. Don't use "All File Formats". CorelDRAW does not always use the best filter....especially when it comes to .pdf and .eps files.

Try the PDF hack and let me know if it works for you.

    Good luck.

I will second what @Mark Case has recommended.  Print to PDF from within Acrobat has saved me many times.   It changes something in the makeup of the file that makes it more friendly with CorelDRAW.
