  • 1.  CorelDraw Hotkeys with Gaming Mouse

    Posted 22 days ago

I grew up playing MMO video games and I bought an MMO gaming mouse for work so that my hotkeys were more easily accessible, and so that I didn't have to take my right hand off the mouse as often. I've used this mouse for about two years and it works great for me, but I know I could do more.

I'm interested in adding more hotkeys in Coreldraw to improve overall speed while designing and setting up art. Are there any that I'm missing out on that I should be using that you don't see on my list?

For those of you that have never used this type of mouse before let me explain.

If you click 1-12 it corresponds to the first column (B),  holding Ctrl and clicking a number corresponds to that hotkey under the Ctrl column (C) etc. So if I need to center an item to the center of the Corel page I left click the item/object and then hold shift and click 9 on my mouse. I don't have to remove my hand from the mouse to click P,  which is the default hotkey for center to page while in Corel. It takes getting used to, and I don't recommend adding more than a few hotkeys at once otherwise they don't become second nature.

    Harrison,

What a terric concept.   Of course you'd add the tools you use most to the few blanks you have left, but if it were me, I'd add Combine Nodes & Break Apart Nodes; those are the most annoying to me to have to stop and move mouse to find on the icon bar.

Thanks for that I will work on adding those into my arsenal and add them to my remaining hotkey slots. Once I finish the Alt + number hotkeys I plan on adding another column with CTRL + Shift + Number, but that is still a ways off.

Wendy, If you think it would have relevant hotkeys or ideas I'd be more than happy to look at it. Thanks!

Years ago when Corel used to provide a manual with each upgrade which included all the fonts and clipart that also was included within the software, there were several pages of character short cuts to use such as ALT key + 0149 gives you a bullet symbol. It also came with a foldout card that had additional information. If anyone would be interested in this information I would be happy to send you a copy.

    Great job , Harrison.

I love being efficient. These are some of the ones I use frequently, but it's all about how you use Corel. I've also included an image of my custom Menu Bar.

    Create Border

    To Front of page

    To Back of page

    Outline Pen properties

    Envelope tool

    Contour tool

    Position docker

Align docker (I see you have most of these as independent Hot keys)

    Convert outline to object

    Snap off/Snap on

You'll see some weird icons on my tool bar. Those are custom macros. Roy Brewer (who is on this thread) has some great macros!

Now I need to go buy one of these gaming mice.

BTW, great topic for the forum!

Great, thank you for the ideas and inspiration of others to add. We're currently using the Red Dragon M908 at work, but I have a Logitech that I like at home for personal use.

I've never gotten into macros, so it sounds like something that I need to start looking into next.
