  • 1.  custom name tag

    I have a customer requesting a name tag similar to this that she created in AI.  Can anyone assist?  I'm at a loss.

    In the real world that would end up being a massive and heavy name badge compared to most.  It could be created layering laser cut plastic.   It would be more expensive than she thinks as a one-off design like that.  I do like the general concept.

    First of all, I love the design! 

    However, I like to remind my customers that the purpose of a name tag is it somebody standing five or 10 feet from you can read your name. Print it out on paper for the customer and have them tape it on someone across from them to determine if the font is large enough. The second issue that I see is that it would be very difficult to wipe off completely in the event of fingerprints or other dirt getting on it.  Maybe you could use a clear material over the top with a vinyl C?  Good luck!

    Just my opinion. I have started seeing customers "creating" what they think they need in the AI world without any knowledge of how the REAL WORLD really works. Do they actually think we can just magically create exactly what they want or just simply pull it off the shelf?

    How do you handle these request?   (Maybe this needs to start a new thread?)

    I agree Bryant.  That's the challenge I'm having.  AI makes it look cool and easy but reality and AI are two entirely different worlds.  I'm trying to be realistic with my customers about what I can and can't do.  Just like this with the name tag, I've had someone want a 'really cool' design they made in AI on a Tshirt.  The resolution was so low there was no way to do it without reworking the whole design yet they didn't want to pay for that design work because they felt the design was already 'done'.  

    I'm learning to steer the conversation into what's possible earlier before I spend too much time on it.

    Here is a design file you can play with.  If you flatten out the Cs, you may be able to pull it of.  The weight may still be an issue, with three layers, but she may not mind it.  I personally would resin dome the C sections of this badge to add some bling to it.  This example is 3" x 1.75" with the name in an 18 pt. font.  Print it out to get a better idea of size and readability of text.
