Mark Warren did a great seminar on this at the Vegas show several years ago. A recording might be available. Or you could call Mark. He is wonderful.

    Hi Jaime -

As Lisa mentioned, I presented a class on donor walls, halls of fame/honor, and record boards a few years back.  As I mentioned during the seminar, I DO NOT consider myself an expert, but we have done many of these type products.  I have learned over the years how incredibly easy it is to mess up and lose money on projects like these if you don't plan very well and think it through.  There are a few very good companies that specialize in these type projects, but we are not one of them.

Feel free to call or email me if you would like more information.  I am happy to provide my slide deck that I presented, as well as an Excel spreadsheet that I use for determining what I want to charge my customer.  NOTE FOR ALL WHO MIGHT BELIEVE THIS PRICE FIXING...IT ISN'T.  THAT IS BECAUSE THE SPREADSHEET HELPS DETERMINE YOUR COSTS AND THEN LETS YOU DETERMINE IF YOU WANT TO CHARGE A FIXED AMOUNT ABOVE THAT COST, OR A PERCENTAGE ABOVE THAT COST.

While you are brainstorming this process, don't discount the concept of used a variety of high-resolution digital display panels to keep the display fresh and make it very easy to update.  I am seeing more of this as the resolution of panels is becoming so refined.  This opens up the opportunity to refresh the graphics and text, and to rotate images.  You could also change the list of donors on the fly remotely.  I can see this alternative as an easy sell to organizations with larger budgets.

David, that is a great point that you brought up about digital displays being used with...or even for...donor recognition.  We have had two different projects that incorporated them, although we did not provide the actual displays.  I think that it is becoming important for our industry to be able to offer this type solution.  Not only to those with larger budgets, but maybe even more so to organizations with smaller budgets.  The ability to make changes on their own provides low cost updates for the long-term.  Then we could can focus more on providing the individual recognition items for the actual donors.

We are more than capable of handling the graphics side.  It is the technology side that requires the learning curve.  I doubt it is much of a learning curve.  As I think through this, we have a large national LED display manufacturer in town.  I may have a sit down with the owner and get his perspective on this concept.
