Las Vegas and the Super Bowl

  • 1.  Las Vegas and the Super Bowl

    Posted 07-21-2023 09:34

    Hello Everyone,

I was trying to be early and start preparing for the Las Vegas show in February 2024. The Paris and the Horseshoe are already sold out due to the Super Bowl being in town that weekend. Everything else nearby is double and triple what we normally pay for a night. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Best,

    Angie

    Hi Angie,

I'm happy to hear your planning for the 2024 Expo!

APA has a block of rooms at The Paris and Horseshoe with pre-negotiated rates which are much lower than you're seeing. We have not opened the room block yet but are working to get that ready to launch in the next month. Once the room block is open, we are encouraging everyone to book early and take advantage of the APA rates!

Most APA Expo attendees arrive in Las Vegas between Sunday and Tuesday and depart on Friday. The Super Bowl attendees are expected to arrive on Thursday and Friday, when APA attendees are heading home. This means reasonable airfare in and out of Vegas for APA attendees!

Be sure to read Niels Norby's President's column in the July/August issue of Insights which covers this is topic - hitting mailboxes soon.

I live in Las Vegas and can tell you that the entire week the APA Expo is going on, there are events happening for the Super Bowl. EVERYTHING is going to be packed the whole week along with traffic being a nightmare. I would highly recommend that the APA consider changing the dates of the Expo for everyone's benefit.

Traffic isn't really a concern for the vast majority of attendees as we take an Uber from the airport on Monday or Tuesday and back on Friday.  They aren't driving around.  I also doubt the crowds will have increased significantly until Thursday.  A bigger concern would be announcing a date, people buying airline tickets and then changing the date a month or two later.

Plus the fact that these conference dates are often negotiated and booked years in advance, so it's not necessarily easy or even possible to change dates due to contracts, etc.   If I remember correctly, APA commited to a few years worth of conferences when they moved the conference to Paris, and I'm sure all of the dates were nailed down at that point.

    Steve,

I feel your pain as I live in Henderson as well and am slightly dreading the commute each day to and from the Expo but I'm also excited to see everyone and enjoy the activites of the Expo. Best of luck to you navigating the traffic too.

My biggest concern is that the Chiefs get to the Super Bowl again this season, so if I attend the APA Expo I can multi-task while in Vegas.

Angie - Expedia does show them as not available, but if you go to Ceasars.com, you can book direct.  I went ahead and booked a room as I get the Caesars reward rate and it's refundable up to Feb 2.  That way if the show rate is less, I can swap over, but if I miss out on the block of rooms, I am still covered,

I'm just thankful that you all are already talking about this, or I wouldn't be getting my travel plans made yet.  We are planning to stay for the whole weekend as we've never gotten to go to any of the Super Bowl games (or events)!  I'm with David and am hoping that Mr. Mahomes and Kelce take the Chiefs back to the big game next year!!!   If so, I'm going to be running up the card getting tix!

A bit of trivia for you.  The Chiefs training camp is going on right now.  It's a short walk to camp from my shop or my home.  It's nice to have them in the neighborhood.  The players are given some time off and we run into them out in our community regularly during this stretch, even the big dogs.  They and all Chiefs fans really enjoy their time in our small town of 80,000.  We make sure of that.

So David, are you a true Chiefs' fan and believe your team will go to the Superbowl?  If so,  I hope you have booked your tickets to come the APA show and on the side be able to root on your team while in Vegas!

I will root for them to get to the Super Bowl.  They are in a very tough conference.  Getting through that will be the biggest challenge.  If they make it to the Super Bowl, winning it will likely be easier than what they went through to get there.

    Thank you Amelia,

I was on the Paris Hotel site and it was saying they were booked. Going through Ceasars.com like you suggested, had availablity with much better rates.

    Best,

    Angie

As Louise mentioned - APA has plenty of rooms set aside at a pre determined rate. Honestly, APA has been in Vegas when lots of other large events are going on. I personally am going to take advantage of the atmosphere and driving isn't typically something I do once I've parked the car. I feel often people want things to do "after" the show floor closes - this will provide ample opportunity. Where Paris is located is easily within walking distance to so many different events. Heck - when isn't Vegas busy!!!!  Embrace it, be glad we are back to being able to have normal events like the super bowl and our Expo :)
