After 40 years of great service, my old champion scratch/routing machine has given up.  I need to purchase a new or used machine that will allow me to engrave the older plates and items that enter my store.  Scratching is only about 10% of my total business, so if anyone out there can help me make an informed decision on this subject, please let me know.

If you keep an eye on Ebay you will find excellent deals on used New Hermes IS400 machines.  These machines have a vice and an 8" x 12" table engraving area.  Make sure you get the software and dongle with the machine.  If you get the Gravostyle98 software with the machine, it will run best on old Windows XP computers.  Newer versions of the Gravostyle software can run on more current operating systems.

I recommend staying away from the IS400 Gift machines, as they were designed specifically for Things Remembered and may only operate on their proprietary software.  I don't know that for a fact, but letting you know there is that potential.

We have both an IS400 and an IS400 Gift machine and they both will run with New Hermes software.  I believe they will also work with the engravelab software, but @Fred Schwartz may be able to answer that question.  

I know that Fred sells refurbished equipment and the computers to run them and will always have you up and running quickly. 

There is a gentleman in the northeast who buys and sells used machines too, but I can't recall his name.  I believe he also sells Chewbarka Tags.  Ricci is maybe his last name?
