When PDU manufactured their figures in the US, they all started as silver. The original idea was to sell silver figures and then they offered gallons of "Gold Dye" in case you needed gold figures, you could dye what you needed. It was a messy process. Someone figured that you could take a gold figure, stick in in acetone (and then in a bucket of water to stop the process) to strip the figure back to silver. A much cleaner process. When PDU moved all their manufacturing to China, that didn't work anymore, and a cry went throughout the land. Then UPS labeled the Gold Dye as a hazardous material and PDU as well as the distributors couldn't ship without training and labeling the product as hazardous, so everyone stopped selling the dye. Might be wrong here but I think the part number was 1106.

I don't remember what the dye was. I think it came from PDU.
It did not work very good on gold figures.
It was to dye the silver ones gold, but if faded it would probably be ok.

Carol,
Would be interested in what the dye was if you recall. Have had the same issue.
Thanks

It is a dye. We use to have a gallon of it that you could dip your silver
figures into to make them gold.

I have often wondered just what that "gold" color really is? My trophy business has really grown the last couple of years with a local go kart track and a dirt track nearby.
I have noticed the quality of trophy components has dropped considerably. Both in the imported parts and the US produced components (i.e. particle board bases, etc.).
Certainly adds another step in the labor department to clean up what the factories have missed. (If they even look at all.)

I just purchased a case of figures from one of my suppliers.
The "gold" color is about a half a shade away from being silver.
They look awful on the trophy, which is comprised mostly of parts
from a different supplier.
Had no choice, these were the only figures available, so I was lucky ( I think) to get them.
What is wrong with our industry? Way back when, almost everything from different
suppliers was very close in color. How about suppliers setting some standards so your
customers can actually not be afraid to purchase from more than one supplier?
Not very happy to sell theses trophies to my customer.
