  • 1.  Oyster Shell or Mother of Pearl

    Posted 06-15-2022 13:53
    Hello Everyone,
Please forgive my ignorance, I am still very new to the industry.  I do a LOT of name badges for people in my Fraternal organizations.
It seems like almost every Lady who orders a name badge wants it on Oyster Shell or Mother of Pearl and a ornate or fancy frame around it (think filigree).
Laserable would be best, but I also have UV and Sublimation capabilities.

I have looked high and low but cannot seem to find either the frames nor the material.  I was able to find a few very small (and very expensive) sheets of Oyster Shell on Etsy. But that is it.  Can anyone assist in pointing me in the right direction?  Does NOT have to BE Mother of Pearl or Oyster Shell, just LOOK like it. I am open to ideas.
I have seen the plastic name badge frames and rhinestone versions too, but not any with the filigree look to them.

    Thank you in advance.

If you have UV, I would experiment with UV printing a texture on a holographic or foil base? I have also purchased some pretty rhinestone frames in the past from ID Plates (now Gemini) and some of the women realtors and divas we do work for love them.

    Lisa,
Great idea, I think that is worth a try.  I will look into it.
And yes, the ladies do love the rhinestone frames.  Those have gone over very well so far.
    Thank you very much!

Gerry, try looking at what a luthier may use. Most guitars, banjos, mandolins, etc... use mother of pearl for the inlays on the fretboard.
A quick google search for "mother of pearl thin sheet" came up with this

I ran in to this a few years ago. Apparently one company has the exclusive rights and licensing for all Mother of Peril used in North America. The product is highly regulated. That is why it is hard to find and expensive.
