Over the last few weeks we've hired two new team members. For now, we're fully staffed.
One of the new hires came to us as an intern from one of our local community colleges. She's studying graphic design and she's working in our production area, with a goal to get her trained to operate our equipment soon.
The other new hire came to us as a referral from another local business owner. This particular person works on the weekends only for this other business (a restaurant). We hired him to work in our production area Mondays through Thursdays. Curiously, this same restaurant owner had referred another of our employees to us earlier in the year. At that time, the young woman he referred (his girlfriend's daughter) was not working and spent her days at home playing video games. She has proven to be a fantastic team member for us.
We had another new person start with us in June. I met her when I was set up at a community event (not a hiring event) and I had a "we're hiring" sign in our booth. She spoke to me at the event and then contacted me right afterward and came in for an interview.
For months we paid for listings on various job boards. We also responded to every post we saw on social media from people looking for work. We interviewed a few people but none were good fits for us.
After we hired these last two people, one other applicant contacted us. She had been referred to us by one of our other employees. We interviewed her. She could have been a good addition but since we had just hired the other two, we could only offer her part-time hours. I was aware of a local print shop looking for people and I referred her to them. They hired her on in a full-time role.
I don't think there's a magic bullet to attract talent these days. Make sure everyone you communicate with knows you're hiring.

I was wondering if anyone is having success attracting qualified candidates for open positions. I have different roles at different comp levels and I have been underwhelmed by the responses. I have done competitive surveys and our comp/benefits seem to be in line with comparables. If anyone has come across some creative ideas for recruiting I would be interested to hear.
